Fall Front Entry

Happy October everyone!  I decided to pull out the fall decor today and decorate my front door!  It's still a work in progress but it's starting to come together!  I ran over to Pier 1 Imports today and picked up the necessary home decor essentials including two of these fall berry wreaths to hang on our black wrought iron and glass double entry door.  We just recently had this door installed and I love the way it turned out! The wrought iron scroll detail makes it easy to hang a wreath with no nails!  Here are a few other autumn wreath options I found at Pier 1 here and here.

I also purchased this 48 inch faux boxwood spiral pre-lit topiary which will work well in any season.  I decided to keep it bare for now, but have been thinking about punching it up with some autumn garland such as this one here or here and a pretty fall bow.  When the fall decor comes down at the end of November, you can decorate it with some beautiful ornaments and snow.  The possibilities are endless which is why it makes it such a perfect choice for front entries! This 72 inch pre-lit topiary is a great choice if you have a large porch with high ceilings!

I still have a few more things to buy before I consider my fall front entry complete including a welcoming door mat.  I found a few options I am considering here and here.   I am also contemplating purchasing some decorative lanterns for the right side of the door.  I love this black one here which also comes in red here

I added some pumpkins and gourds to surround the doorstep.  You can purchase faux ones at your local craft store or pick up some fresh ones at your local farmers market.  I hope to wrap up the finishing touches on my fall front entry this weekend but thought I would share my progress so far!

I hope you enjoyed it!

Happy Fall!

Hollywood Movie Glam Home Decor

My taste in home décor has definitely evolved over the years and now I find myself leaning towards more modern and minimalist style.  Mid-century modern style has always been a favorite look of mine.  It’s my dream to someday purchase a 1950’s fixer upper and restore it to its original beauty and glory, adding bright pops of color in every room!  It’s a cheerful and playful style but very much sophisticated.

I found these vintage cotton candy pink mid-century modern club chairs and just fell in love.  I always wanted a pink sofa but getting these accent chairs may be a great compromise.  Here are a few other pink beauties you may love just as much here and here.  I went with a Hollywood movie glam theme in my design below.  Cinematography is actually a personal interest of mine and I majored in film and television production in college.  I always try to add home décor that reflects my personality and/or interests – then you have a story to tell about it!  here are some of my favorite cinema inspired accents that would be perfect for a home theater or any movie designed room here, here, and here!

Mid-century modern is always bright and colorful with the use of paint, wallpaper, accents, and art.  Here are a few of my favorite wall art pieces that would go perfectly in any retro styled room here, here, and here.

Happy Decorating,

Hayley

Tropical Vibes

Today on San Francisco Bay Style, I am featuring this gorgeous Ted Baker tropical toucan print camisole in addition to some beautiful summer inspired outdoor furniture and accessories from my favorite home decor store, Pottery Barn.
I recently mentioned that I made my first Ted Baker purchase this year – the distinguishing rose print fit and flare skirt found in this post here!   Just as I was over the moon with that spring inspired print of rose blooms and sweet dragonflies, along comes this fun tropical toucan print that is sure to sizzle up your summer style!

I was immediately enamored with the colorful print of over-sized tropical blooms and rain forest toucans in jungle inspired colors of tangerine orange, palm green, and ravishing reds!   The Ramena tropical toucan camisole is the perfect top for summer!  Dress it up with a chic black pencil skirt and heels for a fun date night look or go casual with a pair of ripped denim shorts and aviator sandals.  You will to stay cool as the temperatures rise with the spaghetti straps and t-bar back detail, but look sizzling hot with the gold zipper front detail and hot tropical print!

Ted Baker’s tropical toucan print can also be found in several other styles in his womenswear collection including this gorgeous shiftdress which is a perfect option for work or a cocktail party, this darling triangle top reversible bikini top and bottom which is a must have for your upcoming summer beach vacation, and this perfect cover-up tunic that you can throw over your bathing suit when you’re done sunbathing, put on your flips flops, toss your hair in a ponytail, and go shopping on the boardwalk!  Check out some of these other beautiful pieces from Ted Baker’s tropical toucan collection here, here, and here.

I am a big fan of birds in fashion this year and there seems to be a tropical trend going on.  I mean who doesn’t love flamingos, pineapples, and toucans?  With summer almost here in a few days, it's time to dust off your outdoor furniture, clean up your backyard and get ready for some banckyard barbecues (or luaus)!  I am sharing some of my favorite outdoor furniture and accessories from Pottery Barn which are sure to make your summer soiree sizzle!

I hope you all have a great weekend ahead

Golden Home Accents

Today on San Francisco Bay Style I am adding more of my favorite golden home accents to my PB Teen gold polka dot guest bedroom!  If you missed my original post, check it out here.  As I mentioned before, I encourage you to start small, take time, and continue to build on your design project adding accessories and artwork over time.  Your wallet will thank you for it!  Once you have the bare bone basics covered, e.g. furniture, paint, flooring, and overall lighting, you can begin adding decorative accessories and textures.

I fell in love with the Emily + Meritt Gold Metallic Dottie bedding collection from PB Teen featured on my recent post here!  Who doesn’t love metallic gold polka dots and stripes? In addition to the bedding, I started with a few golden design elements such as this gold sequins bow pillow, this scallop statement pinboard, and this darling unicorn wall mount!

Now it’s time to add more accessories and artwork and introduce a new color into my gold and white design.  I couldn't help but fall in love with this Oliver Gal “Glam Flamingo Canvas Print”.  Flamingos are so fun, whimsical, and very popular in fashion right now!  I love that the pop of vibrant pink color it adds to the overall gold and white design!  In addition, I purchased this darling gold Birdof Paradise Ring Holder.  I have a growing collection of jewelry and this is a great way to make an artistic statement using your own rings as a design focal point.  Lastly, I really needed a mirror to fill up some empty wall space.  This Sunburst Wall Mirror is finished in brushed gold and adds shine and radiance to the overall look in the bedroom!

Remember, the biggest impact you can make in any design project which is relatively quick to do and inexpensive is dressing the walls with paint or wallpaper.  When selecting decorative touches, make sure you pick things that serve a purpose, function, or have personal meaning to you!

Do you have a bedroom project that you are proud of?  I would love to see it!  Send me pics or tag me on Instagram!  I am always looking for inspiration for my next room!  I hope you all had a wonderful Mothers Day and weekend!

Have fun creating!

Hayley

Modern Style Elements

My taste in home décor has definitely changed throughout the years and so have the trends.  I still have one bedroom in my house that keeps my antique country pine furniture that I‘ve had since I was a young girl.  However, as I get older, I am finding that my style has become a little more modern and I’m trying to be more of a minimalist – this is a work in progress!

The architecture of my home certainly doesn’t lend to modern style, but I like to find unique pieces that I can add here or there that give it some contemporary flair.  Adding modern style to your home is actually quite easy.  A good place to start is with the bare bones - paint, wallpaper, floors, texture, and art work.

If you are lucky enough to live in a beautiful city loft with exposed brick on the walls that’s great!  However, there are many inexpensive products out there now that help you achieve a similar look.  To create your own accent wall, check out these wallpaper products called Wallpops.  Here are some stone samples here and here.  Also, I really like theses styles here and here that are a bit more modern.  It's fun to create an accent wall and you can paint the other walls with a complementary color. I like to keep to the neutral tones such as cream, beige, or grey.

Lighting in the room is so important.  In addition to well placed LED can lights, choose additional lighting that makes a bold statement and serves a purpose.  I just love the industrial look of this Modo chandelier designed by Jason Miller.  The Modo collection features hand blown glass with slight variances in shape and color which makes each piece unique.  Here is a less expensive option but with a similar style.

Artwork and accessories are probably the most important pieces in modern and contemporary style.  Black and white artwork and accessories can really make a bold statement, especially when combined with a pop of color.  Here are a few decorative pieces that I really love here, here, and here as well as this beautiful black and white Cello artwork by Joseph Knowles, Jr. here and here. Books can also make for great conversation pieces and are accessories on their own.  Since I love fashion, home decor and travel, I choose books related to those topics.  Throw them on a bookshelf on on your coffee table for a great addition to your overall style.  Here are a few of my favorite book suggestions: Culture Chanel, Living in Vogue, and/or Dior - 60th Anniversary

The most expensive pieces in your modern room will be the furniture.  Look for pieces with clean and straight lines.  I really love this cream colored sectional by Serena & Lily which ties into the cream colored chairs in the dining room.  I also love this modern glass top dining table which reflects the light from above very nicely.

Last but not least, don't forget to add soft and interesting textures to your overall modern design.  This can be accomplished with curtains, area rugs, throw pillows, and blankets.  You can check out a few I have selected here, here, and here.

As with all home decor projects, start small and build on your design over time.  Remember, the biggest impact you can make which is relatively quick to do and inexpensive is dressing the walls with paint or wallpaper.  Make sure whatever you select has purpose, function, or personal meaning to you!

PB Teen Bedroom

In addition to fashion and travel, my other passion that you may not know about me is home décor and interior design!  I am a bit of an HGTV and DIY junkie and spend many Saturday mornings catching up on some of my favorite home and garden shows!  It drives my husband a little crazy because I get inspired and then want to start a project!  He sometimes moans about it and says “what you want is not something we can do in a few hours!”  Well, maybe he is right…what they do on an hour show usually takes an army of people, some creative time editing, and generally costs some (a lot of) money!  However, I encourage you to start small, take time, and continue to build on your project adding accessories and artwork over time.

My suggestion is to browse Pinterest or Instagram and look for rooms that inspire you.  Take note of the paint color, accessories, window treatments, etc.  I fell in love with this Emily + Meritt Gold Metallic Dottie bedding collection from PB Teen!  Who doesn’t love metallic gold polka dots and stripes?  They also have the cutest gold accessories that complement this look so well, such as this gold sequins bow pillow, this scallop statement pinboard, or this unicorn wall mount!
Do you have a bedroom project that you are proud of?  I would love to see it!  Send me pics or tag me on Instagram!  I am always looking for inspiration for my next room!  I hope you all had a wonderful Easter with your family and friends!

Designing My Feminine Retreat

Hint of Blush Guest Bedroom

I have been wanting to redecorate our guest bedroom for quite a long time and I needed a little interior design inspiration.  For those of you who don't know me that well, I live in a house full of boys, including my chocolate labrador!  I really need a room I can escape to...to get away and work on my blog, to sit in a comfy, girly space that will inspire my feminine side!  My husband and boys may not ever come in this room, but that's ok.  It's my escape...a place to sit quietly and have a cup of coffee or to read the current issue of Vogue!

Lately, I have been drawn to beautiful soft pastel colors...the one I keep coming back to is blush pink! When I was growing up, my older sister had the most beautiful pink bedroom, with lots of ruffles and glitter!  This is my updated version and I love it!  I want to create a space that makes me feel like a little girl again...a princess in her castle.  I want this space to be pretty, soft, and sparkly, but with a grown up vibe!

Tell me what you think of this space?  I feel completely inspired to get started now.  I will keep you all posted on the progress.  It may take a while, but I will have my own retreat!

Find your style inspiration!  Enjoy shopping!

Hayley
