Fall & Winter Hat Trends

I love to wear hats! This obsession started at a very young age when my mom purchased a denim newsboy hat from a secondhand store.  I began wearing this hat 24x7.  Some kids develop an attachment to teddy bears, blankets, or pacifiers.  For me, it was a hat!  It became my security blanket that I never took it off or went anywhere without.  My mom would sneak in my bedroom at night just so she could wash it once in a while!

When I started grade school, my mom warned the teacher about my hat attachment.  It wasn't a big deal in kindergarten or first grade but once I got into second grade, the teacher forced me to take it off in class.  I kicked, screamed, and cried!  I was so upset and devastated - how dare this teacher tell me I couldn't wear my trusty hat that I adored so much!  I didn't want to go back to school the next day, but my mom made me and eventually I let go of my beloved attachment.

Today I love hats just as much as I did when I was a kid (less the obsessive attachment)!  They make a great accessory to any outfit and provide serious help when your having a bad hair day!  You've probably noticed I wear hats quite a lot: straw hats in the summer, floppy wool hats in the fall, cozy knit beanies in the winter, and baseball caps for spring training!  I have a box full of them and today's post is all about my current favorite fall/winter hat styles!

Okay, maybe I'm still a little obsessed but I can't help it!  Which one is your favorite?

Fall Leaves

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!  I can't believe it's already November!  Where does the time go?  Speaking of time, don't forget to rewind your clocks back this Sunday at 2 AM if you live in an area that participates in daylight savings.  During this time of year, we "fall back" in time which basically feels like you gain an extra hour worth of sleep and I'm down with that!  The only drawback in my opinion is how dark it gets earlier in the evening.  That doesn't leave a lot of daylight to squeeze in photos or get thse errands done after work!

Anyway, I recently picked up this brown sweater for fall and have received so many compliments on it!  It's the perfect color that blends with the changing fall landscape and it's super cozy!  I've also received a lot of questions about my brown fisherman hat so I've included that in my shop links below.  It comes in numerous colors and I plan to pick it up in red for the holidays!

You can instantly shop all of my daily looks and products by visiting my shop page here.  Happy Shopping! I hope you all have a great weekend!

John Frieda: Your Hair Talks Make A Statement

Your hair says a lot and John Frieda hair care products help you express yourself and keep the conversation going!  Most of you know I've struggled with my hair for many years.  It's extremely fine and I've always wished for thick voluminous locks... like the beautiful bohemian hair styles you see on #hairenvy Pinterest boards!  I know...I have one!

However, the older I get, the thinner it goes!  I've tried many hair colors over the last 4 decades - I'm a natural brunette but have bounced back and forth between red, blonde, and going back to my roots.  I prefer to be blonde and of course the constant bleaching and coloring makes my hair susceptible to breakage and extremely hard to grow long.  I've tried weave in extensions for volume and length but after a year I had them removed only to find my hair damaged further.  I recently cut off several inches and now I'm on a mission to repair and restore.  I really need good products that will deep condition, protect my color, and keep my hair healthy so it will grow!

I recently had a chance to try some amazing products from the John Frieda "Sheer Blonde Go Blonder" line.  These products are specifically formulated to moisturize and gradually lighten your sunlit blonde hair!  Summer is coming to an end but that doesn't mean your sun kissed highlights need to as well!  Personally, I love my freckles and natural highlights from summer!  Each one has a story to tell!

If your hair could talk, what statement would it make?  The John Frieda Hair Care Team reached out to me recently to ask this very question and here's how I responded...

Brunette, Redhead, Blonde Repeat!

and

Try extensions, take them out, cut it short, now grow it out!

#YourHairTalksMakeAStatement

I've included all the John Frieda hair care products I've been using over the last several months in the shop links and the short video above.  I really love the results I am seeing with my own hair and I think you will to!  Feel free to reach out and ask me any questions!  Looking forward to hearing what you think!

Thank you to John Frieda for sponsoring this post!

Chasing Rainbows

No matter what you believe about rainbows, they are truly magical.  As a young girl, I remember chasing rainbows after the rain looking for that pot of gold at the end.  I never believed in leprechauns, they were too scary!  I always thought there was a sparkly unicorn at the end who would grant me three wishes!

As an adult, rainbows took on a different meaning.  Several years ago, I was on the way to my mother's funeral.  It was a gorgeous sunny day out and my children were in the back of the car. It was a quiet and somber drive...not much conversation was happening.  All of a sudden the muted silence was broken and my son Jack excitedly said,

"Look mama, a rainbow!  Do you think Nanny painted that in the sky?"

We all looked up into the sky and there it was...a beautiful, colorful, serene rainbow shining brightly on a clear, hot sunny day.  I couldn't take my eyes off it.  I was in disbelief.  How could there be a rainbow in the sky today?  There was no rain, no moisture...it made no logical sense.  I was overcome with emotion and tears and within that moment I found clarity.  It didn't take me long to realize the only reasonable explanation was...

what my son believed...
🌈
A RAINBOW is a promise

of sunshine after rain
of calm after storms
of joy after sadness
of peace after pain
of love after loss

As you can imagine, I hold a special place in my heart for rainbows.  In addition to having an emotional connection with them, I love the bold and bright colors which make a statement about me!  So today, I've rounded up some of my favorite rainbow inspo because lets face it...wearing rainbows will make you feel like a unicorn giving big rainbow hugs,,,and who doesn't need that once in a while?

Ashes & Diamonds Winery

If you are planning a trip to Napa Valley, you'll want to ensure you add this winery to your list of must stops.  I grabbed two girlfriends on a sunny summer day and we headed to the ultra chic and modern Ashes & Diamonds Winery for some wine tasting, photos, and lots of fun!!

Outfit Details:

Tropical Stripe Midi Dress found here (similar here, here, and here)
Brown Slide Sandals found here (similar here, here, and here)
Straw Sun Hat found here (similar here, here, and here)
Wicker Bucket Bag found here (similar here, here, and here)
Red Sunglasses found here (similar here, here, and here)

Ashes & Diamonds Winery is located in the heart of Napa just off of Highway 29.  I wasn't sure what to expect as I didn't do any research before we arrived.  When we drove up, I was immediately mesmerized by the striking and bold architecture.  It felt like we just arrived to a sunny and colorful Palm Springs hotel - not the typical vibe you'll find in rustic Napa Valley!  I LOVED it!

The iconic zig zag roof, port holes, and vibrant bright colors pay homage to California's mid-century modern design from the past, seamlessly integrated with a state-of-the-art wine production facility surrounded by light, airy landscapes and playful gathering spots to sip wine and enjoy the views with your friends!

We decided to sit on the outside patio and enjoy the A&D Wine Flight which is a tasting from their current release of four to six wines.  The price varies from $40-$55 per person based on the number of tastings included in your flight (from 4-6).   Tastings can be enjoyed in the inside lounge area (highly recommended when it's super hot outside!), at the tasting bar, or the outdoor patio looking out onto the estate vineyards.   I highly suggest you make reservations before visiting, especially if you are headed there on weekends or during the busy summertime.  Click here for making reservations in advance.

Napa can get really hot in the summer time and this 90+ degree day was no exception!  I decided to wear this tropical print midi dress.  I love the spaghetti straps which are adjustable and crisscross on the back.  It's made with a thicker, scuba style, smooth material which makes it very comfortable.  The back of the dress is bare down to the waist so you will need to go sans bra or use  pasties.  Given the thicker material, I decided to leave both the bra an pasties at home and felt quite comfortable all day long!

We had the best time visiting Ashes and Diamonds Winery and Vineyards and have plans to visit again this coming fall!  I highly recommend this stop on your Napa Valley itinerary if you haven't been there yet!  The wines are fabulous and the mid-century architecture really creates a fun and cool vibe!  I hope you are enjoying these last few weeks of summer!   I can't believe how quickly it's going by!  My kids go back to school in two weeks!

Gal Meets Glam Abigail Dress

When it comes to summer, I love to wear easy breezy dresses that are comfortable, cool, and simple to accessorize!  The Abigail dress from the Gal Meets Glam Collection fits all those needs plus has the flirty fit and flare style that I adore!

Photography By: Lucy Marie Photography

Featured: Gal Meets Glam Abigail Dress (found here and here)

Sandals: Kelly & Katie Kirstie sandals found here
(I'm wearing them in "Natural Nude Leather" but they also come in many other beautiful spring/summer colors!)

Sun Hat: I'm wearing this straw hat found here
I love this hat because you can easily switch out the bow with any scarf
I used this solid yellow scarf found here and cut it in half
(similar options found herehere, and here)

The yellow and green painterly floral pattern on this dress is a perfect color combination for summertime.  The back of the dress has a cute cut out style that ties at the back which is a fun detail.  The Abigail dress is lined and make with a linen/rayon blend which makes it very breathable and comfortable for these hot summer days we've experienced recently in the SF bay area!  Put on some cute yellow sunglasses like these retro oval shaped ones here or these fun cat eye frames here   Also, one of my favorite trends for summer is wicker bags!  I've rounded up a few of my favorites in the shopping links below.

This is the third dress I've blogged about from the Gal Meets Glam Collection.  You can find the first post here wearing the Evelyn dress and the second post here wearing the Yvonne dress.  When I find dresses that fit me well, are tailored with high quality, and have those darling details I adore, I generally stick with them.  I did have to size up on this dress, unlike the last two I blogged about.  I normally wear a size 8 and needed this one in a size 10, primarily as it ran a little too tight in the bust area - I am a 36C.

If you haven't tried the beautiful dresses from the Gal Meets Glam Collection, now is a good time as many of the styles from the initial launch are currently on sale for 40% off!  I've linked them all below so you can find the one you like the best and grab it before it sells out!  The sale does not include the Abigail dress I am wearing in this post, but it does include the Yvonne and Evelyn dresses which are two of my favorites I recently blogged about.  They are the first two in the shop pics below!
