Rainy Day Essentials

Rainy Day Essentials
We are preparing for a big rain storm and high winds to hit the San Francisco Bay Area in a few hours,  This storm is expected to bring several inches of rain, 35-50 mph winds, and localized flooding is possible. My kids school will be closed tomorrow due to the expected severity, damage, and possible power outages that will most likely occur.  In addition, my company advised employees to work from home if possible and stay off the roads.

This is a pretty big deal for us San Francisco Bay Area natives.  We have been in a serious drought for more than a year and rain is very much appreciated and needed.  However, my hope is that no serious damage occurs and people stay safe inside.

Make sure you charge up all your electronics tonight - phones, laptops, tablets, etc.  Grab some batteries, flashlights, matches, and candles and cuddle up and stay warm!

Today on the blog, I'm sharing some of my favorite rainy day essentials.  I have always loved rainy days!  When I was a young girl, my mom bought me a clear bubble umbrella with rainbows on it!  I could never find these when I got older but they have recently surfaced again making a comeback which makes me very happy!  Don't forget your rain boots, rain coat, water repellent hat, and a warm sweater!

Some people walk in the rain,,,I'd rather jump in the puddles! I hope you all have a fabulous day!

xoxoxo,

Hayley

Holiday Gift Guide: Dog Lovers

Today I'm sharing the 3rd installment of my "Holiday Gift Guide" blog series and this one is focused on treats for my fellow dog lovers!  I have a 4 year old chocolate Labrador named Roscoe and have been a "dog person" since I was five years old when my parents reluctantly agreed to bring home a stray mutt we "adopted" while on a family vacation.  Our current family dog, Roscoe, is a very loving an loyal dog.  Yes...he sometimes gets into trouble but for the most part he is a good dog and stays off Santa's naughty list!

If you are looking for the perfect stocking stuffer for your pooch or just want to display your own affection for dogs through fashionable style...have a look at the gift guide I have assembled below!  I am absolutely in love with the Ralph Lauren clothing collection for dogs!  Wait until you see some of these darling styles!  There are also some great handcrafted pillows and accessories through Etsy sites that you should check out from my list below!!

Don't forget to add your pooch to your holiday gift list!  I hope you all are having fun holiday shopping!

Holiday Gift Guide: For Him

I have some more holiday gift ideas to share with you today.  Whether you are shopping for your husband, boyfriend, brother, or best friend, these gift ideas will be sure to spread some holiday cheer!

Men are actually pretty simple to shop for and please.  I usually select gifts based on their hobbies or interests.  Here are some examples:

Foodies: some men love to cook, ahem, or eat!  Let's face it, most are masters of the barbecue!  Therefore, a quick trip to find some kitchen necessities would be perfect!  [ideas: BBQ utensils, wine, bar sets, a night out to that fabulous restaurant in the city, followed by dessert!]

Techies: some men get a bit geeked out over hitech gifts and gadgets! [ideas: music, movies, computer software, digital photography, wireless anything!]

Sports Fanatics: there is an abundance of sports gifts out there!  Whether they enjoy football, golf, baseball, fishing, running, or hunting, you can find something for the sports fanatic in your life [ideas: visit your local sporting goods store!  My husband loves to fish so I renew his fishing license each year!  My brother loves baseball so I usually get him something from the San Francisco Giants!]

I would love to hear what gifts you have in mind for the men in your life!  I have selected a few of my favorites below and I hope they will give you some great ideas and/or inspiration!

I hope you all had a terrific holiday weekend with your friends and family!  It's back to work today for me after the long 4 day weekend!

Enjoy shopping!

Holiday Gift Guide: Scarves

My favorite season of the year is fall and I'm sad it's coming to an end!  I love the rich autumn colors, textures, and patterns!  One closet staple I cannot live without during this time of year is a perfect scarf!  Scarves are the best accessory to dress up any outfit and I own a ton of them!  I'm not kidding!  I picked up this plaid infinity scarf on a shopping trip with my husband to a sporting goods store!  I figured I might as well make the shopping trip worthwhile for me and pick up a few holiday gifts at the same time!

I'm sharing some of my favorite scarves below.  Don't forget to add some to your holiday wish list or get one as a gift for your mom, sister, best friend, or kid's teacher!  They make lovely gifts!  I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving holiday and scored on some Black Friday shopping deals!  I would like to personally thank all my followers and friends for sticking with me over the last two months while I have been absent from blogging.  I really love and enjoy this blog and hearing from all of you!

Hugs and kisses! xoxoxo

Fall Giveaway: $260 Nordstrom Gift Card

Hello everyone!  As most of you know, I have been on a brief hiatus from blogging over the last few weeks.  Sometimes life can get a little crazy and we need to take a step back and focus on priorities such as ourselves, family, faith, happiness, and health.

First and foremost, my beautiful mother who I adore and admire so much, passed away on Sunday October 26th.  She was diagnosed several months ago with a very rare degenerative brain disease called "Cortio Cobasal Degeneration".  It's never easy to lose a loved one, but my faith in God and the support from all my friends and family has been a tremendous help in the healing process.

It's always hard finding the right words of comfort but for those of you who may be experiencing similar grief in your life, I leave you with this beautiful quote a friend sent to me on Facebook...

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal".

On a more positive note, I will be starting a new job and company this coming Monday November 10th! I am a little nervous about this big change as I was with my former employer for 14 years!  It's always hard to leave something that you feel comfortable with.  However, change is what I needed and it was time for me to move on.  I am excited for my new role and looking forward to learning new things, meeting new people, and feeling re-energized.

For those of you who are afraid of change...remember this...

"Progress is always the result of change"

Last but not least, my first blog post after taking this brief but necessary hiatus is something to celebrate!  I am participating in a fabulous Fall Giveaway hosted by TheBoxQueen and twelve other amazing bloggers and friends!  The lucky  winner will receive a $260 USD Nordstrom gift card to spend however they wish!  The giveaway is open to everyone!  Please use the form below via Rafflecopter to enter!  The deadline to enter is one week from today!

Good luck and a special heart felt thank you to everyone who has reached out to me over the last few weeks to offer sympathetic condolences, emotional support, and well wishes!  Your friendship means more to me than you know!

Hayley

Metallic Madness

It looks like the shiny and bold metallic trend we saw pop up on the spring 2014 fashion runway is here to stay for a while.  You can pretty much find a variety of metallic colors in everything from shoes, to puffer vests, to pants, to nail polish!  Metallics are also making a bold appearance in interior home design (e.g. wallpaper, furniture, and artwork).

I think metallic fashion is fun and it’s expanding into all colors on the color wheel!  For fall, try richer and warmer colors such as bronze, raspberry, and gold.  They will be sure to make a colorful statement.  It’s very similar to adding a pop of neon color to your outfit or adding sequins and sparkles to your accessories.  Pop on some metallic Keds and this darling "globe trotter" graphic tee by Sincerely Jules to add a fun, bold, yet casual statement when doing your weekend errands; try some metallic Essie nail polish to brighten up your manicures, or make a dramatic entrance and wear a metallic skirt on your next date night out - this one from River Island is pretty fabulous!

Metallics are the icing on the cake.  I probably wouldn’t wear it head to toe but I do think adding it in moderation through accessories and bolder wardrobe pieces can really add a fun and modern flair to any outfit night or day!

What are your thoughts about metallic fashion?  Is it here to stay or another trend to stick into the 2014 time capsule?

Enjoy Shopping!

Hayley

Fall Style Must Haves

It’s time to select a few of my favorite must-have styles for fall.  These are pieces that I consider essential wardrobe staples for the fall fashion forecast.
(From top left to right)

1. Booties: The perfect pair of short booties is a definite must! Booties are so versatile and can be worn with many different styles. I like to wear them with a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans rolled up at the ankles. They also look great with a dress or skirt and tights. These Rag & Bone nubuck booties are the perfect neutral color for fall.

2. Vest: Fall is all about wearing layers when the weather starts to cool off. A vest is the perfect wardrobe staple to layer with your longer sleeve sweaters, knits, and flannels. Look for different styles – they come in all fabrics and textures including puffer vests, faux fur, and lighter weight knits. This Powder River Outfitters Eyelash vest is a perfect addition to dress up casual outfit and I personally love the longer length! P.S. shop the men’s section for puffer vests! You will find the prices are much less expensive, the lengths are longer, and the color selection is much broader in most cases. I usually buy a small in men’s which may not work if you are petite.

3. Plaid Scarf: Scarves are great accessories for fall. They come is various patterns, textures, and materials. Plaid is one of my favorite fall patterns and it comes in various colors. This tartan plaid scarf from Lord & Taylor is a perfect accessory to add to your fall outfits!

4. Destructed Jeans: Every girl needs a pair of destructed ripped jeans. There are an essential staple to your fall/winter wardrobe. During the colder months, I like to trade in my light wash denim for a medium to dark denim wash. These will pair perfectly with your layered fall sweaters, graphic tees, and blazers this coming season.

5. Nail Polish: This Essie nail color called “Smokin Hot” is a perfect nail color for fall. I gravitate towards darker and richer colors in the cooler months of autumn and winter as opposed to the bright and lighter nail colors of spring/summer.

 6. Hats: Accessorize your fall outfits with a hat! I love this floppy wool felt hat from Topshop. The rich burgundy color is a perfect accessory to any fall outfit!

7. Boots: In addition to a pair of short booties, an investment in a good pair of tall riding boots for fall is a definite must-have. I picked up these Tory Burch Eloise riding boots at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this past July and I couldn’t be more pleased. They look fabulous with your favorite pair of jeans or leggings with an oversized sweater!

8. Faux Fur Infinity Scarf: Faux fur is a great texture to wear during the fall season. In addition to vests, I love the look of faux fur scarves. This infinity scarf by Tinley Road is a perfect faux fur accessory to add to your closet. You will love the look and the soft feel and want to wear it all the time!

9. Handbags: the handbags of fall really aren’t that much different than summer except in color. I recently picked up this Tory Burch Robinson open dome satchel in a beautiful cranberry color. The handbags of fall have warmer and richer hues such as burgundy, caramel, and chocolate brown.

These are my fall must-have selections. What are some of your necessary fall wardrobe stapes? I would love to hear from you! Enjoy Shopping!

Hayley

"Dress"ing for Fall

Location: Blackhawk, CA, USA
From the moment I laid my eyes on this Jessica Howard wrap dress, I knew I had to have it!  There are so many things I love about it including the fit and flare style, the ruffle detail around the neckline, and the adorable tie sash bow around the waist.  This sleeveless dress feels cool, flows nicely, and has sewn in tulle which gives in a bouncy fuller look at the bottom.  I think it was the gorgeous apple green and black floral print that really won me over!  These are perfect colors for fall and I thought it would transition nicely into the new season.

I hope you all are having a fantastic week so far!  Enjoy Shopping!

Xoxoxo,

Hayley
