My favorite childhood memories are the times I spent with my family at the
Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk during spring break! My mom and dad would pack up the RV and drive out of town late Friday afternoon after my brother, sister, and I were done with school for the week!
If you haven't been to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and are planning a visit to the San Francisco Bay Area, this is a place that cannot be missed, especially if you are looking for a fun family getaway! The boardwalk is located at 400 Beach Street in Santa Cruz, CA which is about a 75-minute drive from San Francisco and 45 minutes from the Monterey/Carmel area.
There are a lot of fun
attractions,
rides,
events, and things to do at the Boardwalk. Whether you enjoy relaxing on the beach with a good book, playing video arcade games with the kids, exploring the shops and restaurants on the wharf, or riding the 90+ year old Giant Dipper roller coaster, there is an fun activity for every age!
I love to continue this old family tradition with my kids now. It's a great time to let loose and act like a kid again! We enjoy splashing around in the ocean, searching for all kinds of sea-life including the sea-lions, starfish, and crabs, throwing a football on the beach, eating all kinds of fun boardwalk treats such as cotton candy, soft serve ice cream, candied apples from Marini's, and hot dogs on a stick! I don't worry too much about sugar overload on vacation! It's all about indulging in the boardwalk experience that makes you feel like a kid again!
There are many
places to stay in Santa Cruz. My family enjoyed staying at the
Santa Cruz/Monterey KOA Kampground a few miles south in Watsonville. It's a great place for kids if you love camping, rv'ing, or cabins and is within 10-15 minute drive to the boardwalk. There are some other great lodging accommodations you can check out in the local area. If you are looking to stay in a 4 diamond resort with the comforts of a beach home you may like to try out
Seascape Beach Resort in Aptos!
Here are a few of the snapshots I took on our Spring Break weekend at the Boardwalk! We had so much fun and plan o go back again very soon!
Travel Colorfully!

Hayley
