Grease Plaid Leggings

Location: Oakland, CA,
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family, friends, and/or loved ones!  We spent Thanksgiving with my brother-in-law and his family and the day after with my family and a few of our closest friends.  By this point, I'm a little tired of turkey but have to say my husband and I did a really great job of utilizing our turkey left overs for some pretty amazing recipes!  We made a turkey pot pie on Saturday night, Turkey vegetable soup on Sunday night, I sent the kids to school with a turkey salad sandwich today, and tonight...turkey tacos!  How's that for being resourceful?  I'll try to share those recipes in a future blog post!

Plaid is one of my favorite patterns to wear during the fall and winter months.  I have a variety of plaid blanket scarves, skirts, and button up flannel tops but surprisingly, no plaid pants!  In fact, when it comes to pants I'm usually a minimalist kind of gal wearing mostly jeans, leggings, and joggers.  I thought I would give these Sanctuary plaid leggings a try and brought them into my dressing room.

Once I tried them on, I was immediately sold!  They are cut from a soft, curve-hugging knit with faux back pocket styling and a banded waist similar to a pair of jeggings.  They are available in a selection of plaids, camo, florals, and checks as well as versatile solid neutrals.  They are made of a stretchy knit fabric using 68% rayon, 27% nylon, and 5% spandex with an elasticized waist.   They are popularly known as the "Grease Leggings".  I assume this is because they are similar to the black skin tight pants Olivia Newton John wore at the end of the school year carnival in the movie "Grease".

I am 5'10 and normally wear a women's size 6-8.  I ordered a medium and they fit perfectly!  These are my must-have leggings for comfy style on-the-go.

I kept this look pretty simple pairing the leggings with a popcorn knit rust sweater that I've had in my closet for several years. If you end up getting any of the patterned leggings, you'll want to wear a solid color on top.  I like to wear my leggings with complementary color tunic length knit sweaters, cardigans, and oversized dressy sweatshirts. When the weather begins to get cooler, I'll throw on my pea coat and a scarf to bundle up and keep warm!  I ended up purchasing two colors because I love them so much!

For the final accessories, I wore a mocha colored brown newsboy hat, chocolate brown suede booties, and had my favorite whiskey brown saddle bag in tow.  Hats, bags, and booties are perfect accessories to any fall inspired outfit!

Green Butterfly Dress

Location: Niles, CA
I love the warm and rich colors of autumn and recently I had a look at my closet and realized I needed a refresh for the season!  A few weekends ago I spent some time organizing, purging, and changing out my wardrobe for fall and winter necessities and I quickly realized I was seriously lacking in the fall dresses department!

Boots: Brown Suede OTK Boots by Coach (old) - similar here, here, and here
Bag: Saddle Bag by Sole Society (old) - similar here and here
Earrings: Old Navy - similar here and here

When I first saw this dress online I was immediately drawn to the beautiful butterfly print.  The butterflies are painted in a muted orange and pale blue and really pop against the olive green background.  The twisted choker neckline and black lace detail adds a feminine Victorian style which I really love!  It reminds me of the gorgeous dresses Kate Winslet wore in the movie Titantic!

Here are a few more of my favorite Adelyn Rae dresses!

The fit and flare style and bow tie sleeves on this dress provide a flattering, fun, and flirty silhouette.  The length of the dress is perfect hitting me right at the mid-thigh.  The sizing is also true to size (TTS).  I am 5'10 and normally wear a women's size US 6-8.  I picked up this dress in a Medium and it fit me perfectly even in the bust and shoulders where sometimes I can have sizing problems!

Since it's fall, I decided to wear my whiskey brown suede over the knee boots which match my favorite brown saddle bag perfectly! I love wearing boots with dresses in the fall and winter months.  I have a pair of green Hunter rain boots that I'm excited to wear when the weather gets a little drizzly and rainy later this season!

Timeless Coffee & Fall Floral Dress

Location: Timeless Coffee
One of my top 10 favorite coffee shops in the San Francisco Bay Area is Timeless Coffee in Piedmont.  I often work from home and it's nice to have a change in scenery some days.  I will periodically gather up my laptop, headset, and charger and head out of the house to work remotely for the day or a couple hours.

Timeless Coffee is a quaint and cozy cafe and bakery that serves house roasted java and is widely popular for their delicious vegan/vegetarian dishes and pastries.  They serve the best almond milk lattes which is my favorite for a cold and drizzly day.  If you are planning to spend some time there working please note they do not offer free wireless.  Therefore, if you don't have a personal hot spot and a good battery life on your laptop, you'll need to get things done offline.

Normally, I don't dress up when I work remotely or from home.  However, on this particular day I had an appointment in the afternoon and I was excited to wear my new fall floral dress (currently on sale here)! I really wanted a dress inspired by the rich, warm, and beautiful colors of autumn.  When this one arrived in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised.  The brown, red, lavender, and tan colors are bright and vibrant and the floral palette really nailed the autumn inspiration I was looking for!

In terms of the style, I really love the pin tucked pleats and mini dress length.  The jewel neck line, button cuffs, and long sleeves are perfect for the cooler fall weather and the good news is it's  machine washable which makes it so much easier to care for!

Question:

How do you accessorize dresses for the colder days ahead?

One of my favorite style tips is to recycle your favorite spring and summer dresses for fall and winter.  You can do this by adding layers.

1.  Working from the bottom up, start with your shoes.  Flats, heels, and sandals work great in the spring and summer but in the fall and winter months you'll need something more to keep your tootsies warm.  A cute pair of over the knee boots or booties will work really well.

2.  You will also need some warmth for your legs.  I love to wear colored leggings or tights.  They add an extra pop of color, make a stylish and bold statement, and most importantly keep you warm and dry when it's raining or snowing outside!

3.  Add a cozy knit cardigan, denim jacket, or moto.  No matter where I go, I always make sure I have a warm layer to throw on because I hate being cold.  These stylish and cute layers would look adorable with this or any dress!

4.  Finally, accessorize with some cold weather accessories.  A solid print scarf and hat really tops off the fall/winter look and adds some cute detail!

If you're like me and you love coffee and exploring the local favorites when you travel, I highly recommend adding Timeless Coffee to your list when you visit the San Francisco Bay Area. Some people say they have the best vegan cheesecake in all of California but you'll have to try it to see for yourself!  I personally love their chia pudding parfaits (amazing) and lattes - which can be made with non-dairy substitutions like oat, soy, or almond milk.

Timeless Coffee is 100% vegan and dog friendly.  They offer a wide variety of food choices and delicious pastries.  The setting is warm and cozy with seating indoors and out that is perfect for a lazy morning sipping coffee.  Their coffee beans are also worth taking home if you make coffee in the morning like we do.  However, it can be hard to find parking and a seat after 9am and the breakfast/brunch weekend crowd can make it very busy! The bottom line in my opinion is it's the best coffee shop and vegan bakery in Oakland and although I'm not vegan, I really enjoy the atmosphere, service, and variety!
